London - Nashville

London – Nashville, direct flight, British Airways.

Your trip begins in Nashville, Tennessee. Fly into Nashville International Airport and pick up a rental car to begin exploring. Nashville is known as “Music City” because of its homegrown cultural scene and more than 120 live music venues. Catch a glimpse of country music history with a backstage tour of the Grand Ole Opry, home to the world’s longest running live radio program and Country Music’s most famous stage. Between watching live music, try some of the amazing local restaurants like Swett’s, famous for its fried chicken served cafeteria style.

Nashville

Enjoy Nashville! Although this legendary town is well known for its “Country” music scene, you will find all genres of music, live performances everywhere and of course, cowboy boots!

Honky Tonk Row will be the area to hang out with so many bars, restaurants, souvenir shops… surely you will have a great time! If you like Country Music,  you are definitely in the right place!

Visit The Johnny Cash Museum, where you can find  a huge collection of Johnny’s memorabilia. Photos, outfits, lyrics, his collection of framed gold and platinum albums… The Big Bang is one of Nashville’s favourite piano bars we recommend you to check out in the evening.

You can write down the name of your favourite song, place it near the piano player and he/she will eventually play your song! It’s amazing! The Country Music Hall of Fame is another hot spot to visit, filled with memorabilia including Elvis Presley’s car that is fitted with a huge TV and old fashioned telephone.

A tour to Studio B is another highlight. You can sit on the piano stool where The King recorded about half his catalogue of hits. The Loveless Cafe is a restaurant located approximately half an hour from Downtown Nashville. You will be driving through pretty coutryside with big typical Deep South big homes…

Nashville - Memphis
Drive to Memphis in the morning. The drive takes approximately 3 hours 30 minutes non stop.

The BB King Cafe is located  in Beale Street, popular for first time visitors. Graceland is Memphis’ biggest highlight. Allow at least half day to see it properly.

You will find lots of souvenir shops and museums dedicated to Elvis on the area and lots of Elvis lookalikes wandering around. Lorraine Motel is another place of interest to visit, the infamous hotel where Martin Luther King Jnr was shot and killed.

His room is now his memorial and has been keps exactly as it was the day he got shot down by a man with a gun in the bathroom of the motel directly opposite. Eerily this bathroom is currently the Martin Luther King Jnr Museum where you can track the time line (and sight-line) of both men until the exact moment of that fatal shot.

Memphis – Tunica – Clarksdale
Memphis to New Orleans will take approximately six hours by car, depending on traffic conditions.

You can stop at Tunica ( Mississippi ) which has been nicknamed “The Gateway to the Blues.” A stop at the Gateway to the Blues Visitors Center & Museum will help unlock the top Delta Blues landmarks. Make a lunchtime trip to the Blue & White Restaurant to sample the home-style noon buffet with Southern treats like country ham, fried chicken and catfish.

In Clarksdale, pay a visit to the colorful Ground Zero Blues Club, owned by Academy Award-winning celebrities and featuring a rotating list of today’s hottest musicians. Host to musical greats like Muddy Waters and Bukka White, Clarksdale is a must-see for any Blues fan. Make time for the Delta Blues Museum, which recounts the history of the Blues and has musical instruments, costumes and other memorabilia. It even features Muddy Waters former home.

Don’t miss the New Roxy where superstar, Soul Music pioneer and Clarksdale native Sam Cooke performed along with other famous musicians. On the way out, be sure to check out the iconic sign at the Crossroads, where local lore says Robert Johnson made a deal with the devil to play Blues that well.

Overnight accommodation in a standard room on room only basis at The Holy Moly Blues Central Hotel OR Bluestown Inn, Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Clarksdale – New Orleans
Next on the itinerary is New Orleans (Louisiana), a culturally diverse city of French, Spanish, Cuban and Creole influences. Drop car off on arrival at New Orleans.

Hop on a streetcar to shop on Magazine Street or visit the ornate Garden District. The streets are covered with stately mansions and lush oak trees. The action takes place in New Orleans’ French Quarter, a cultural mainstay that has long inspired musicians, writers and artists.

A New Orleans institution, Café du Monde is the perfect spot for fresh beignets, fried dough eaten hot sprinkled with confectioners’ sugar. Slowly sip a cafe au lait or cup of chicory coffee with subtle hints of chocolate. Later, take to the vibrant streets and visit the famed Bourbon Street where revelers take to the street and hop from bar to bar. Locals head to Frenchman Street to take in live Jazz at a dozen or so music hot spots.
