Cayo Levisa Island

East of Havana & easily reachable

Cayo Levisa Island

per person

Imagine a small island 30 minute by boat from mainland Cuba by boat with only 68 rustic but comfortable beach bungalows. The Cayo is about 2 and half hours from Havana in Pinar Del Rio Province. It is close to the superlative Vinales Valley, and perfectly complements a visit to the rural Cuban countryside.

The ocean side of the island features a white sandy beach that expands for several miles. It is always easy to find solitude and to connect with nature. The length of the island can be walked in approximately 90 minutes.

Cayo Levisa is a versatile destination that caters equally well for families, couples and honeymooners. Honeymooners are offered added value benefits of room upgrade (subject to availability), a romantic beach dinner experience and complimentary bottle of wine in room on arrival. Families will relish the safe swimming beach and opportunities to reconnect with nature.

The 69 wooden bungalows offer two categories of accommodation: the more basic “Tropical bungalows” and the roomier “Deluxe bungalows”.

Cayo Levisa is sold on a full board basis. Meals are served in two restaurants: Las Brisas and the main buffet restaurant. Food is simple, seasonal and fresh with sufficient variety. The smaller “Las Brisas” restaurant is more intimate but has proved popular and does require a reservation for evening meals.

Cayo Levisa Beach, Cuba

Cayo Levisa Beach, Cuba

Cayo Levisa is an off grid experience ; electricity is generated on site and fresh water is brought in daily by boat from mainland Cuba. Despite this, it offers a Cyber Cafe and will soon offer wifi for those desperate to stay in touch with the real world.

All bungalows have a mini fridge stocked with basic refreshments. Other room amenities are a small safety deposit box, air conditioning, hair drier, flat tv screens with international TV channels, basic toiletries and private terrace with beach loungers. Beds are comfortable and rooms are serviced daily. You are never far from an expansive ocean view and the generally calm sea means that a swimming pool is not a necessity.

Don’t miss the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Several bars will tempt you to sample a range of Cuban cocktails which are modestly priced. Cigar “aficionados” can purchase these from the hotel shop to complete the Cuban Tropical experience.

Cayo Levisa is an antidote to high rise all inclusive resorts. The informal atmosphere will appeal to those wanting to escape the stuffiness of everyday city life and formality of mainland hotels and those that will delight in its simplicity.

Consider the remote location and smile the way through any occasional brief interruptions to amenities.

The staff are friendly, hard working and unobtrusive and will do their best to make you feel at home whilst exuding a sense of National pride.

Activities.

Those that remain energetic after a long beach walk may wish to hire canoes, surf boards or catamarans at a small fee. The hotel hires snorkeling gear. Some of the best dive sites in Cuba are offered on the coral reef surrounding the island. Scuba dives are arranged by the PADI dive centre for novices as well as accomplished divers at moest prices by international standards. Ultimately the big draw on the island is the ability to relax in its raw pristine beauty. Adequate numbers of sun loungers and Bali style beds facilitate this.

The secret of Cayo Levisa is becoming known, so it does get fully booked at times, so early booking is best to guarantee your place, particularly in high season.
