Negombo
After enjoying breakfast, embark on a sightseeing tour of Negombo.

Located on Sri Lanka's west coast, just north of the capital Colombo, Negombo is a charming city with a rich history. Near its waterfront, you'll find the remnants of a 17th-century Dutch Fort, now repurposed as a prison.

The picturesque Negombo Lagoon, dotted with fishermen's huts, connects to the historic Hamilton Canal, a Dutch-era waterway extending south to Colombo.

A notable landmark is St. Mary’s Church, a neoclassical structure completed in the 1920s, adorned with a vividly painted ceiling depicting religious themes.

3
Negombo - Anuradhapura - Dambulla
After breakfast, travel to Anuradhapura and begin a sightseeing tour of this historic city.

Explore the ruins of Sri Lanka’s first capital, established in the 5th century BC, which holds the largest collection of ancient monuments from a remarkable civilization. Anuradhapura became the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, making it home to some of the most sacred sites of Sri Lankan Buddhism.

A highlight is the Sri Maha Bodhi tree, grown from a cutting of the original "Bo Tree" under which the Buddha attained enlightenment. It continues to attract thousands of Buddhist pilgrims worldwide. Other incredible remnants include the pillars of the Brazen Palace, once a nine-story structure, the serene Samadhi Buddha statue—a masterpiece of Buddhist sculpture—the twin ponds, moonstones, and guard stones. Notable monuments include the Ruwanveli Seya Dagoba, famous for its elephant wall, dating back to the 2nd century BC, and the Thuparama Dagoba, one of the oldest stupas, built in the 3rd century BC.

Later in the day, visit Mihintale, a significant site in Buddhist history, before heading to your hotel in Dambulla for check-in.

4
Dambulla - Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa - Dambulla
After an early breakfast, visit the renowned Sigiriya Rock Fortress and its ancient frescoes. (Approximate transfer time: 15 to 20 minutes)

Constructed by a visionary monarch in the 5th century, Sigiriya, also known as Lion Rock, is a remarkable marvel of engineering and architecture. Towering 200 meters above the surrounding forested plain, its flat-topped summit gently slopes, providing breathtaking views. Situated in Sri Lanka's cultural triangle, this iconic site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. It is recognized as Asia’s best-preserved first-millennium city, showcasing advanced urban planning, intricate engineering, and sophisticated irrigation systems, all centered around the palace atop the rock.

After scaling this magnificent fortress, continue your journey to Polonnaruwa for a guided tour of the Ancient City. (Approximate transfer time: 1 to 1 ½ hours)

Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s second oldest kingdom, was declared the capital by King Vijayabahu I in 1070 A.D. after he defeated the Chola invaders, uniting the nation under native rule once again. Today, Polonnaruwa is celebrated as one of the island’s most well-organized archaeological relic sites, reflecting the discipline and grandeur of its early rulers. The city has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserving its historical significance for generations to come.

5
Dambulla - Kandy
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and head to the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple. (Approximate transfer time: 15 to 20 minutes)

Once the visit is complete, continue your journey to Kandy. (Approximate transfer time: 1 to 1 ½ hours)

On the way, stop by a spice garden and a batik factory. Here, you’ll have the chance to discover the diverse spices and aromatics that have made Sri Lanka famous for centuries.

Upon arrival in Kandy, take time to explore this beautiful city.

Kandy, often called the Hill Capital, is a charming city surrounded by rolling hills with a serene lake at its center. It was the last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings and still exudes a timeless grandeur. A highlight of the city is the famed "Temple of the Tooth," which houses the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. Kandy and its nearby villages are also known as the hub of Sri Lanka’s handicraft industry, and the city’s traditional dances are among the most vibrant and spectacular in the country.

Historically, the tooth relic has played a pivotal role in Sri Lankan politics, symbolizing the power to rule the country. Kandy, the final capital of the Sinhalese kings, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks in part to the cultural and historical significance of the temple.

6
Kandy - Pinnawala - Kandy
After breakfast, set off for the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. (Approximate transfer time: 1 to 1 ½ hours)

Pinnawala serves as a sanctuary for young elephants that have been displaced or orphaned in the wild. This one-of-a-kind refuge allows you to observe these gentle giants as they frolic in the water and enjoy their milk feedings from handheld bottles. The nearby river has been integral to their care, and in 1984, Pinnawala celebrated the birth of its first elephant calf. This remarkable success has drawn global attention from scientists and conservationists alike.

After your visit, return to Kandy for a sightseeing tour. Discover the vibrant Kandy Market, take a scenic drive along the Upper Lake, and visit attractions such as the Gem Museum and the Arts & Crafts Centre.

Later in the afternoon, continue exploring Kandy with a visit to the iconic Temple of the Tooth Relic. Situated within the royal palace complex, this sacred site houses the revered relic of Buddha's tooth. As part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple holds immense cultural and historical significance.

Conclude your day by witnessing an enchanting cultural dance show, showcasing the rich traditions and artistry of Sri Lanka.

7
Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and head to Peradeniya to visit the renowned Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. (Approximate transfer time: 15 minutes)

Originally designed as a royal pleasure garden, this site was later transformed into a public botanical garden. The Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya boast a vast and rare collection of tropical and temperate plants, both exotic and indigenous. Highlights include the Orchid House, home to Asia’s largest orchid collection, offering a feast for the eyes.

After exploring the gardens, continue your journey to Nuwara Eliya. (Approximate transfer time: 1 ½ to 2 hours)

En route, visit a high-grown tea plantation and factory to learn about Sri Lanka’s world-famous tea production. After lunch, around 4:00 PM, begin a sightseeing tour of Nuwara Eliya.

Nuwara Eliya, nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country, is a picturesque town with a distinct colonial charm. Known as "Little England," it features architecture reminiscent of the British countryside, including Georgian and Queen Anne-style homes, well-manicured lawns, an Anglican church, a historic golf course, and charming parks, all evoking a sense of nostalgia. Situated 6,200 feet above sea level, Nuwara Eliya offers cool, crisp air and a tranquil retreat from the busy cities.

For those seeking adventure, pony and horseback riding are available at the town's turf club. You’ll also visit a tea plantation nestled in the misty hills, where you can immerse yourself in the process of tea cultivation and production.

After completing your sightseeing, proceed to your hotel in Nuwara Eliya, check in, and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.

8
Nuwara Elliya - Ella - Yala National Park
After breakfast, set off on your journey to Yala. (Approximate transfer time: around 5 hours)

On the way, enjoy a sightseeing tour of Ella, a charming hill town known for its stunning landscapes, lush greenery, and serene atmosphere. Ella offers picturesque views, tea plantations, and iconic spots like Ella Gap, Nine Arches Bridge, and Little Adam’s Peak, making it a perfect stop to break up your journey.

After exploring Ella, continue to Yala. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax for the rest of the day.

9
Yala National Park
With a packed breakfast, set out for an adventurous safari at Yala National Park.

During the height of British rule, Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) became one of the world’s most coveted destinations for exotic expeditions. The 19th century saw the arrival of British explorers such as Samuel L. Baker, who introduced a unique style of safari that combined exploration with luxury. These expeditions were far from rugged; instead, they featured well-appointed tents equipped with fine furnishings, gourmet food, and premium drinks.

Accompanied by a team of skilled butlers, cooks, and local trackers, these explorers enjoyed the wilderness in comfort and style. At the peak of the British Empire, it was customary to have a full bar, expert culinary staff, and top-notch camping equipment—setting a precedent for the luxurious safaris Yala is now famous for.

Today, Yala offers visitors a chance to relive the spirit of these grand safaris, immersing themselves in the park’s rich biodiversity and scenic beauty while spotting wildlife like leopards, elephants, and a variety of bird species.

10

Explore the fort’s cobbled streets, visit the lighthouse, and discover the blend of Dutch, Portuguese, and British influences that shape the town’s unique character.
